Environmental
protection:
Our common environment is threatened by industrialized agriculture and fossil fuel expansion, by deforestation, all of these having a dramatic impact on our lives, resulting in increasing flooding, earthquakes, climate change. Our biodiversity is severely and, often, irreversibly affected by the destructive projects promoted by corporations.
Half of the world’s forests are already gone. In some countries in Europe ( Romania) the rhythm in which forests are disappearing is catastrophic: 3 ha/hour. But forests provide the oxygen for our lungs, food for the local communities, they help to balance our climate and they offer shelter to several species of wild animals.
By working with local people, supporting them in preserving the traditional way of living, empowering them with innovative solutions, we aim to strengthen their right to decide their own way of living.
We campaign for sustainable development in accordance with the interest of people and not of corporations. People have to be put before profit and to ensure a sustainable future for everybody.
Preservation and supporting the European and universal cultural values:
Preservation of our environment is indissolubly connected to cultural preservation. Our cultural, common heritage is endangered by climate change and socio-economic pressure. More intense rainfall, pollution, increased temperature, more and stronger storms and floods and, last but the most important perhaps, the destructive projects pushed by corporations put our cultural assets in danger.
Campaigning for a healthy environment means, thus, campaigning for preserving our cultural heritage, as well. We aim, thus, to raise awareness at the local level, within communities , to act responsibly and, at the level of decision makers, to advocate for preserving our common values, making these available to the future generations.
Advocacy:
We campaign for creating opportunities for citizens to have a stronger voice at decision-making levels ( local, national or European) , in order to be able to create their own future and to ensure that legislative factors take into account their voice. We aim to strengthen government/institution–civil society dialogue at national and regional levels. By promoting awareness of environmental issues among civil society, people are able to influence decisions at different level.
By creating alliances with other organizations with similar goals and beliefs, we approach policy makers to ensure community rights are put first, to influence the positions of decision makers on certain issues, or on a particular subject.
Environmental consultancy & Trainings:
With the experience accumulated at European level, lobbying on several subjects at the National/ European level, we aim to disseminate information on EU environmental legislation, in order to raise awareness among citizens (regardless of the country, area or region in which they live, North or South), facilitating access to public information and improving the dialogue between civil society and decision institutions.
We consider that training and continuous education have a major role in raising awareness, informing and educating people concerning their interaction with the environment. We should be aware of our own environment, of our own values, capacities, expertise and our own determination to act, individually or collectively, in order to solve current and future environmental issues. Our goal is to promote a change of attitude and behavior among citizens concerning the environment, and to reach a certain level of civic responsibility for the environment. In the long term, change and renewal depend on how aware members of our society are that each of us is responsible for our common environment and for our common future. The training includes three complementary perspectives, sometimes distinct:
- A strict environmental perspective: education on the environment
- An educational perspective: education through the environment
- A “socio-cultural” perspective for the environment, which aims to promote better integration of human beings within our environment
The trainings aim to develop certain abilities in people: the ability to think in terms of conflict and values; the ability to asses our own impact on the environment; in the long term the ability to go from awareness to knowledge and action; the capacity to collaborate with other people.
Cultural events
Our cultural background represents an asset. An educated, informed person is a person ready and fully prepared to think, to judge, to identify a manipulation, a mystification, an abuse, even when they are wrapped in beautiful wrapping paper. “The ones who do not know their past are condemned to repeat it " (George Santayana, Spanish essayist and philosopher). That’s why we promote all kinds of cultural events, meant to attract younger generations to areas less interesting for them today, due to progress, globalization and consumerism.
We support and organize cultural events, through which we aim to broaden people’s horizons.
